Hair Fiber Question and Answer

Can I Mix Different Toppik Colours?

The Short Answer: Yes, mixing colors is the "Secret Weapon" for a natural look, especially for Salt & Pepper or highlighted hair. The rule is to layer, not pre-mix in the bottle. Apply your darker base color first to cover the scalp, and then lightly dust the lighter color (or Gray/White) on top to match your natural highlights and dimension.

Why One Color Fails

Natural hair is rarely one solid block of color. It reflects light and has varying tones. Using a single solid dark color on thinning hair can sometimes look opaque or ink-like.

  • For Salt & Pepper: Use Dark Brown/Black as the foundation + Gray/White as the highlight.
  • For Balayage/Highlights: Use your root color at the scalp + your highlight color on the mid-lengths.

Buying Tip: If you are between shades (e.g., Medium Brown and Dark Brown), it is safer to buy both and mix them directly on your head. Hair Solutions Canada sells all 9 Toppik shades, so you can build your custom palette.

Common Color Questions

Can I mix them in the bottle?

You can, but it's risky. If you shake them together, the lighter fibers may settle differently than the dark ones. Layering them directly on the head gives you more control over the final look.

What if my roots are dark but ends are light?

Always match the fibers to your root color, not your ends. The fibers sit at the base of the hair shaft to hide the scalp. Matching the ends will make your roots look unnaturally light.
